This is an English-Chinese translation practice report based on an Australian novel A Waltz for Matilda, which was published in 2010.Jackie French is an Australian writer, historian and ecologist. The novel takes its inspiration from the Australian folk song "Waltzing Matilda".Combining the fictional plots with historical facts, the novel tells Matilda’s journey towards independence against a backdrop of forest fires, floods and war.The translation report consists of five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction to the source text, introduction to the translation practice and the structure of the translation report.Chapter two describes the translation process, including three aspects: pre-translation stage,while-translation stage and post-translation stage.Chapter three introduces the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" framework which was put forward by Professor Li Changshuan. The fourth chapter analyzes the typical cases in the process of translation based on the "CEA" framework. The last chapter is conclusion.According to the "Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation" framework proposed by Li Changshuan, this report analyzes a large number of examples to summarize how to solve problems related to comprehension, expression and adaptation. The problem was related to the comprehension of two points of view: background information and context;the case analysis of expression includes two categories: use of authentic Chinese and avoidance of Euro-Chinese;in terms of adaptation,it focuses on how to adjust the translation through adaptation to better convey information from the source text, which includes translation of the English idioms and amplification. In view of the problems encountered in the translation process, the translator offers the corresponding solutions,in the hope of providing references for the translation of the Australian novel.
