A Report On C-E Translation Of High-speed Railway Economy(Excerpts)

Under the background of the “Belt and Road” initiative,China’s high-speed railway has gradually become a “new name card” in establishing a new image of China’s modernization.In order to accelerate China’s high-speed railway to “go global”,its related foreign publicity work should be paid attention to.In particular,the English translation of texts concerning high-speed railway plays a pivotal role in promoting China’s high-speed railway to the world.Therefore,the translator selected High-speed Railway Economy written by Yao Shihuang as the translation material.Under the guidance of the publicity principle of “three closeness” put forward by Huang Youyi,this translation practice was carried out so as to show foreign readers the unique influence of China’s high-speed railway on socioeconomic development,and encourage them to understand contemporary China via understanding the story of China’s high-speed railway.Guided by the publicity translation principle of “three closeness”,this report explores the characteristics of the original text at both lexical and syntactic levels,and summarizes the methods and techniques suitable for this translation practice.At the lexical level,methods including literal translation and free translation,together with techniques including conversion and addition,are adopted to deal with Chinese four-character words.As for translating proper noun,the translator follows the principles of “established by usage” and “adaptation to original names”.Thus,at the lexical level it is possible to make the translation convey the original information and meet the reading needs of foreign readers.At the syntactic level,the translator adopts techniques of adding the subject or changing the voice to translate sentences with no subject,and uses techniques of adjusting the word order or segmenting and reorganizing sentences to translate long and complex sentences.So,at the syntactic level,it makes the translation readable and close to the expression patterns of foreign readers,which helps achieve the purpose of introducing China’s high-speed railway to the world.
