The origin of the mind has been explored by mankind since ancient times.Studying Western philosophies of the mind is helpful for us to understand the differences between Chinese and Western cultures fundamentally. In this translation report,a book introducing the mind in Western philosophies is selected as the source text, hoping that it can promote the exchange of knowledge and culture between China and the West. The source text,an expressive text, expresses the writer’s thoughts and shows how to explore the origin of the mind by metaphor. There are a large number of terminologies, noun structures, passive sentences and complex long sentences in it,so Vinay and Darbelnet’s translation model is selected to guide the translation practice to accurately convey the meaning of the source text and improve the readability of the translation.Under the guidance of this model, the author completes the translation, where borrowing, calque, transposition and equivalence are used at the lexical level to convey the message accurately, and literal translation is used at the syntactic level to restore the message of the source text for sentences whose grammar is basically the same as that of Chinese and modulation is applied to translate long and complex sentences to make the translation in line with Chinese expression habits.
