In today’s world, where the living environment of human beings is deteriorating, people are increasingly concerned about the ecological environment, and some ecological issues are becoming familiar to Chinese people. As China heavily relies on imported timber, and there is a significant gap, bamboo resources can be used as a supplement to timber resources, highlighting their importance. This translation project focuses on Chapter 4 “Resources,Yield, and Volume of Bamboos” and Chapter 6 “Pests and Diseases of Bamboos” from the book Bamboo: The Plant and its Uses.As the introduction to bamboo plants in this book is relatively easy to understand, translating this book has significant implications for popular science. The book falls under the scientific and technological text category, containing a large amount of basic information and knowledge related to bamboo plants.Guided by Newmark’s communicative translation theory, the translator focuses on the language habits and reading experience of the target language readers, ensuring a fluent and accurate translation. The case analysis in this report involves three levels of translation issues: lexical level, syntactic level, and textual level. At the lexical level, the main focus is on term and abbreviation translation, using methods such as consulting books, literature, and search engines to solve translation problems related to professional terms. At the syntactic level, methods such as passive-active conversion, structural adjustment, and information amplification are used to address issues of information loss and low readability. At the textual level, the translation involves both omission of linking words and repetition of nouns, with a focus on ensuring that the translation conforms to the reading habits of the target readers.Through the solution of translation problems at these three levels, the original meaning can be conveyed more accurately, allowing readers to better understand and utilize the translated text. This report aims to provide some reference and assistance for future translation of similar texts.
