A Study On Cambodian Translation Of The Conceptual Metaphor In Xi Jinping: The Governance Of China Volume Ⅰ

Xi Jinping: The Governance of China Volume I contains the important works of General Secretary Xi Jinping from November 2012 to June 2014,and is an authoritative book for understanding Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.This paper takes the Chinese and Cambodian versions of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China Volume I as the research corpus,takes conceptual metaphor theory as the research framework,and adopts the method of combining quantitative and qualitative methods to count and classify the conceptual metaphors in the text.The concept of cognitive translation summarizes the translation strategies of conceptual metaphors in the Cambodian version and the objective factors affecting the choice of translation strategies.This paper identifies and extracts the metaphors in the book according to the conceptual metaphor classification method by Lakoff and Johnson and Metaphor Identification Procedure by Pragglejaz Group,and analyzes the structural metaphor,ontological metaphor and orientation metaphor respectively.The Cambodian version mainly adopts five translation strategies,which are translation into the same conceptual metaphor,translation into non-metaphorical expression,replacement of conceptual metaphor,translation of metaphor into simile,omission of conceptual metaphor,and the translation strategy of conceptual metaphor.Objective factors include textual factors,language factors,cultural factors,and contextual factors.
