A Practice Report On E-C Translation Of Service Manual Of XXX Wheel Loader (Excerpts)

During the internship period from July 2022 to December 2022 in a construction machinery company,the author participated in a project to translate Service Manual of XXX Wheel Loader(excerpts).The translator applies Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory to analyze and reconcile problems encountered in the practice task,and proposes how translators should respond when encountering unfamiliar areas.Based on the internship experience and personal interests in the construction machinery company,the translator chose the hydraulic system maintenance section in the English version of Service Manual of XXX Wheel Loader(excerpts)as the translation practice,mainly introducing the composition,working principles,maintenance methods,and related precautions of the hydraulic system,which can provide assistance to foreign construction machinery companies and technicians and enhance efficient scientific and technological exchanges.The translation practice report contains five parts.The first part is the introduction of the translation practice project,including the background and significance of the translation project,the requirements of the translation project and the structure of the practice report.The second part is the introduction of theory,introducing the theoretical basis and the application of the communicative translation theory in technical texts.The third part is the translation process,combining the communicative translation theory to the translation practice,which states the preparation works before translation,translating in the while translation stage and the post-translation stage.The fourth part is the case study,decoding the translation skills adopted in translating technical texts under the guidance of the communicative translation theory from three aspects: vocabulary,sentence and discourse.The fifth part is a summary of the translation task,discussing translation insights,translation shortcomings and suggestions.The results show that the communicative translation theory can guide the translation of Service Manual of XXX Wheel Loader(excerpts).Under the guidance of the theory,the translator may restructure the target language and focuse on the communicative function of the language,rather than adhering to the form of the original text.As for the technical terms,long and difficult sentences,objectivity and logic of this kind of technical texts,taking the communicative translation theory as the guiding theory may solve these problems well.For the readers of the translated language,they can better accept the information of source language texts,so that the information they receive can be as equal as possible to the readers of original texts and achieve the best communicative effect.
