Leon Boellmann(French: Léon Bo?llmann,25 September 1862--11 October 1897)was a famous French organist and composer in the 19 th century.He created a variety of genres,more than 160 works,such as organ,symphony,chamber music,such as the richness of the works and brilliant sound effects show his extraordinary creative talent.Cello Symphonic Variations is composed by Leon Polman for cello.It has rich artistic expression and high difficulty playing skills,which can show the advantage of cello playing and the beauty of timbre.The author analyzes the creative and performance characteristics of this work and divides the article into three chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the life of Leon Boellmann and the writing background of this work.The writing background mainly revolves around the influence of Romantic music on Boellmann’s creation and the influence of Cezar Frank on it;The second chapter elaborates on the creative characteristics of the work from three aspects: the analysis of musical structure,the study of thematic materials,and the study of tonal characteristics;Chapter 3 provides performance interpretation based on the author’s graduate studies and personal performance experience.The content mainly focuses on the key points,difficulties,and practice methods of the first section,the details of string rubbing and sliding in the second section,and the coordination between the cello and piano in the third section.
