Under the “Belt and Road” initiative,China and ASEAN have witnessed increasingly close trade and fruitful cultural exchanges.Meanwhile,as China-ASEAN cooperation is still a hot research topic,the number of relevant research works has surged,which has become an important window for people at home and abroad to understand the cooperation between China and ASEAN.Consequently,translating the text related to China-ASEAN cooperation is conducive to helping foreigners comprehend the development of China and ASEAN and providing better cultural services for the exchanges and cooperation of the two sides.It also is of practical significance to promote the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and ASEAN,deepen the bilateral economic and trade cooperation,and help build a community of shared future between China and ASEAN.The Annual Report on the Development of China-ASEAN Cooperation2016-2017(hereinafter referred to as the Annual Report)is the collaborated research results of the China-ASEAN Research Institute and the China-ASEAN Collaborative Innovation Center for Regional Development of Guangxi University.This book is a comprehensive annual report on cooperation between China and ASEAN,and between China and ASEAN countries in various fields.Commissioned by the China-ASEAN Research Institute of Guangxi University,the translator translated the two articles from Chapter III: Report on Ecological and Environmental Cooperation between China and ASEAN in 2016 and Report on the Implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative in ASEAN Countries.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory,the translator summarizes the translation difficulties at lexical and syntactic levels and proposes relevant translation strategies.The difficult points include terms,number abbreviation,category words,high-frequency words,and four-character structure at the lexical level as well as run-on sentences,non-subject sentences,figurative sentences,and coordinate sentences at the syntactic level.Translation methods,such as free translation,annotation and omission,and the like,are applied to tackle translation difficulties at the lexical level.Addition,division,and changing sentence order,and other translation strategies are adopted when dealing with sentence translation according to the specific context.By utilizing the translation strategies mentioned above,it is expected to maximize the connotations of the original text,thereby providing readers with the target language text featuring faithful,and smooth meaning.
