Due to the needs of a project,a certain company and its foreign partners need to sign a written agreement in accordance with the law in order to achieve certain economic goals and conduct economic and technological cooperation and exchanges, the purpose of which is to clarify the rights and obligations of both parties and protect their rights and interests. The author was entrusted by the head of the company to translate the technical cooperation agreement and confidentiality agreements. The source text belongs to commercial contract as the content of the agreements is clear, detailed and specific, and the subject matter and liability for breach of contract are specified.According to Reiss’ s text typology theory,a contract informs about the agreement, duties and rights of the partners, thus being classified into informative type. The usage of accurate words, lengthy sentences, rigorous logic and formal register equips it with the characteristics of legal texts. Therefore, the accuracy, professionalism and prescriptivity of the commercial contracts raise higher requirements for the quality of the translation.Given the linguistic characteristics of the commercial contracts as well as the key points and difficulties encountered in the translation process, typical cases and examples are selected from the source text and analyzed in this report. In accordance with the phase of analysis and phase of reverbalization proposed by Reiss, this report makes an analysis of the source text based on its text type, style and function from the macro perspective. Some specific methods and solutions are adopted to reconstruct the translation from the micro perspective of lexicon, syntax and discourse. From the lexical level, literal translation, simplification, and expansion are introduced to render a faithful and accurate text.Syntactically, the analysis of long and complicated sentences is combined with grammatical analysis, and methods such as breakdown, modulation, voice conversion, postposition, expansion are adopted to ensure a fluent and natural translation. In the discourse, discussion mainly focuses on the nominalization, repetition and formulistic characteristics so as to establish a standard, accurate and rigorous translation and achieve the functional equivalence between the source text and the target text. This report summarizes the typical characteristics of commercial contracts in combination with specific texts, and selects corresponding translation methods in accordance with the text type guided by the text typology theory. It is hoped that this translation practice will offer new theoretical perspectives and solutions for the analysis and processing of informative texts, enrich the case study of commercial contract translation practice, and at the same time provide some references for the translation practice of similar types of translated texts.
