Hua Yan is one of the representative painters of Yangzhou Painting School.His activities in the Kang,Yong,and Qian dynasties were at the most prosperous stage of the Qing Dynasty.The booming economic activities have spawned a huge demand for the art market,which has led to the birth of the Yangzhou Painting School,the most representative painting genre of the civil class in the late feudal society of China.Unlike other painters of the Yangzhou School of Painting,whose main painting themes are the Four Gentlemen and Flowers and Birds,Hua Yan,who was classified as the Yangzhou School of Painting,has its unique painting style.Hua Yanzhi’s paintings are characterized by landscapes,figures,flowers and birds.During the Qianlong period,his name was good at Huaiyang.Hua Yan characters were taught by Ma Hezhi,flowers and birds by Yun Nantian,and landscapes were traced back to Song paintings by the Yuan people.In their later years,they combined the strengths of various schools in the Song,Yuan,and Ming dynasties,creating a new and elegant style in the Qing Dynasty.However,the current academic research on Huayan mainly focuses on its flower and bird paintings,while the research on its landscape paintings is less.The "Landscape Album",which is currently stored in the Flier Museum of Art in the United States,is a work of Hua Yan in the middle and late stages,at which time Hua Yan has become mature in landscape painting creation.The author intends to study this volume of paintings from three perspectives: first,through a comparative analysis of Hua Yan’s activities before and after the creation of the "Landscape Album" and Hua Yan’s early and late paintings,to construct the uniqueness of the "Landscape Album" in Hua Yan’s landscape painting creation.After that,through the interpretation of the title text in the painting combined with the content of the screen to analyze the artistic conception presented in the "Landscape Album".Finally,the author returns the research perspective to the technical level of "The Book of Mountains and Rivers",and completes the research on this painting through the analysis of the ink language in "The Book of Mountains and Rivers".The author intends to explore the painting style of Huayan mature landscape painting through the study of "The Book of Mountains and Rivers",and make a modest contribution to the study of Huayan landscape painting.
