"X belong to be Y" is a very common judgment sentence in modern Chinese, which is composed of the fixed term "belong to be" and the variable term XY in the middle. The particularity of this sentence pattern is mainly reflected in "Belong to be".Semantically,"Belong to be" is a combination of the two verbs "Belong to" and "be",which is generally considered illegal;Formally,"Belong to be" is one of the "X+be" structures."X belong to be Y" has appeared in laws and regulations since the 1980 s,and has been widely disseminated on online social platforms since 2021."X belong to be Y" in traditional language style and in online language style, respectively, have different characteristics. In short,"X belong to be Y" has its own unique research value.Currently,no one has conducted special research on this type of judgment sentence or format. On the basis of previous studies, based on Mr.Xing Fuyi’s "Little Triangle" theory and a large number of linguistic facts, this article explores "X belong to be Y" from four dimensions: linguistic form, intralingual meaning, pragmatic value, and formation reasons.First of all,we have fully described the judgment sentence from the perspective of linguistic form.Through statistical analysis,we find that the variable X and Y are mainly served by noun phrases; In traditional style,"X belong to be Y" is a "X+belong to be+Y" structure, while in online style,it is a "X+Y+belong to be" structure; In terms of syntactic function, the main function of "X belong to Y" is to form sentences independently and act as clauses in complex sentences, rarely serving as syntactic components.Secondly,we analyze the semantic characteristics of the judgment sentence.Research has found that "X belong to be Y" does not tend to indicate commendatory meaning, but can indicate semantic types such as classification, evaluation, explanation, and metaphor.By comparing "X belong to Y" and "X be Y",we realize that the judgment sentence "X belong to be Y" cannot directly indicate ownership, and rarely indicates equivalence, emphasis,or existence.Thirdly,we analyze the pragmatic status of this sentence. We found that due to the high frequency of use of this type of judgment sentence on the Internet, the fixed term "Belonging to Yes" has a tendency to be highly labeled. We also note that this judgment sentence has a position expression function that expresses the speaker’s understanding and emotional attitude. In the aspect of discourse organization, the judgment sentence can respectively serve as a topic construction,a link between the preceding and the following, and a summary of the entire text, depending on its location. Finally,we discuss the reasons for the formation of "Belong to de" from several angles. The formation of "Belonging to Shi" is influenced by the analogy of the "X+be" structure, and is also strengthened by the superposition of "Belonging to" and "Shi".Influenced by semantic reinforcement, the meaning of "Belong to" mainly refers to classification, which is not only a classification between generic relationships in the general sense, but also related to categorization. The enhancement of subjectivity makes people more inclined to use "Belonging to Yes" to express the imprint of the speaker’s self.
