| Pronephrium penangianum(Thelypteridaceae)was a fern widely distributed under the sparse forests or beside the shady ditch at an altitude of 900 to 3600 m in southern China.The rhizome of Pronephrium penangianum(P.penangianum)has been used for the treatment of dysentery and hemorrhage while its leaves were utilized for the treatment of menoxenia in Tujia ethnomedicine.Phytochemical investigation of this fern revealed the presence of flavonoids,lignanoids,phenolic acids and steroids.The major kind of flavonoids,flavon-4-ol glucosides,was a characteristic structure in genus pronephrium.Flavon-4-ol glucosides possess important pharmacological activities including anti-tumor,anti-fibrotic,anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant.Despite its very well bioactivities,the mechanism of the traditional uses of this fern still remain unknown.All this leads up to our research on the phytochemistry investigation of the bioactive compounds of P.penangianum to prove its traditional uses.The result shows that 25 compounds,have been isolated from this fern.Their structures were elucidated as penangianum A(PP-1),penangianum B(PP-2),abacopterin C(PP-3),abacopterin A(PP-4),(2R,4S)-6,8-dimethyl-7-hydroxy-4’-methoxy-4,2’’-oxidoflavan-5-O-β-D-6’’-O-acetylglucopyranoside(PP-5),abacopterin D(PP-6),triphyllin B(PP-7),abacopterin I(PP-8),(2R,4S)-5,7-O-β-D-di-glucopyranosyloxy-4’-methoxy-6,8-dimethyl-4,2’’-oxidoflavane(PP-9),abacopterin K(PP-10),7-methoxy-2’,5’-dihydroxy-flavone-5-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(PP-11),3-methoxy-5,2’,5’-trihydroxy-chalcone-5-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(PP-12),7-O-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy-homoeriodictyol(PP-13),redflavonoid A(PP-14),redflavonoid B(PP-15),5,2’,5’-trihydroxy-7-methoxyflavone(PP-16),homoeriodictyol(PP-17),lasiodiplodin(PP-18),de-O-methyllasiodiplodin(PP-19),osmundacetone(PP-20),emodin-6-methyl ether(PP-21),ergosta-4,6,8(14),22-tetraen-3-one(PP-22),ergost-6,22-dien-3β,5α,8α-triol(PP-23),stigmast-4-en-3-one(PP-24),β-sitosterol(PP-25)。PP-1,2,11,12 were five new compounds.PP-18~24 were first isolated from this plant. |
