Reading can provide students with the opportunity to acquire language knowledge and use language,which can not only cultivate students’ reading analysis ability,but also cultivate students’ language communicative ability.Therefore,reading is particularly important in high school English teaching.However,the current reading teaching only stays on the shallow learning characterized by rote memorization and mechanical practice.It is very arduous for students to deeply understand the meaning of the article,and it is difficult to apply what they have learned to real situations.In this way,students’ language use ability is not cultivated.Moreover,in high school English reading teaching,teachers often only focus on asking questions about the surface information in the article,while ignoring questions about the author’s creative intentions,creative background and other deep-level information.Under this single questioning method,it is often difficult for students to have a deep understanding of the article,so it is difficult to improve students’ reading ability.Therefore,it is particularly necessary to choose a teaching mode that is suitable for the current English reading teaching.The research on the basis of Deep Learning Theory,Taxonomy of Educational Objectives Theory,Problem Continuum Theory and Zone of Proximal Development Theory,constructed a teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning.The experimental method,the questionnaire survey method and the interview method were used to carry out the application research of the teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning in high school English reading teaching.In this study,88 students from two parallel classes,Class 7 and Class 8 in the first grade of a high school in Weifang,Shandong Province,were selected as the research objects.Class 7 was the experimental class,which adopted the teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning to teach.Class 8 was the control class,which adopted the traditional teaching mode to teach.The experiment lasted for 4 months.After the experiment,SPSS26.0 was used to analyze the reading test and questionnaire data before and after the experiment.This study mainly focuses on three research questions:(1)What are the impacts of the teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning on students’ English reading ability?(2)How does the teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning have different effects on the English reading ability of students at different language levels?(3)How do students evaluate the teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning?The research shows that:(1)The teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning has a positive impact on high school students’ overall reading ability and sub-reading ability(detail extraction ability,comprehension and reasoning ability,main idea summary ability,and word meaning guessing ability).It has the greatest influence on the main idea summary ability,followed by the comprehension and reasoning ability,followed by the detail extraction ability,and has the least influence on the word meaning guessing ability.(2)The teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning has the most significant effect on the low level students’ English reading ability,and the least effect on the high level students’ English reading ability.(3)Students expresses their approval of the teaching mode of question chain based on deep learning.This study puts forward some enlightenment and suggestions for English reading teaching in the hope of providing some references for English reading teaching in senior high schools.
