Under the background of "Double First-Class Initiative",international communication among colleges and universities has been greatly enhanced.Campus web news link higher institutions both at home and abroad,and its translation quality is of vital importance for universities’ foreign promotion.Therefore,the English translation of campus web news is particularly significant.This report is based on the campus web news translated by the author during the internship in the English Web Editorial Department of Shandong University.Guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory,the report explores the principles and strategies of campus web news translation and analyzes some typical cases in the source text.For example,at lexical level,the source text contains proper nouns,culture-loaded words and Chinese four-character words.The translation should accurately convey the information on the basis of full consideration of the cultural connotation.At syntactic level,the source text is made up of many long sentences with complex structures.When translating,it is necessary to analyze the internal logic of each small patterns.At discourse level,the translation strategy of compilation is adopted to reorganize the scattered paragraphs so that the translation is more readable for the target readers.Translation activities under the guidance of functional equivalence theory can produce a smooth and equivalent target text.This report can give some references for the translation of campus web news,and is useful for the follow-up relevant study.
