| The report is based on the translation practice of fourteen development projects of Rushan introduced in the Investment Promotion Brochure of Weihai Cultural Tourism Industry compiled and published by Weihai Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism in August 2020.The overall goal of the brochure is to attract more capital to boost local cultural tourism,thereby promoting the economic growth of the city.From the language function and practical use of the text,the source text can mainly be classified as an appeal-focused or operative text.Reiss’ Text Typology emphasizes that the choice of translation method should be based on the type of text.The translation of the appeal-focused or operative text should achieve the same effect as the original text,which requires to preserve the appeal inherent in the text.In this report,the difficulties and relevant translation methods at the three levels of lexis,syntax and discourse are elaborated through typical cases under the guidance of Text Typology.At the lexical level,the important role of literal and free translation methods in dealing with terminology and culture-loaded terms is discussed;at the syntactic level,the report analyzes the importance of division,combination and addition for the translation of Chinese run-on sentences and elliptical sentences;at the textual level,the report discusses the importance of combining linguistic and extra-linguistic factors to make appropriate omission or supplement of the original information,and analyzes the translation methods adopted to achieve cohesion and coherence of the English text on the basis of the differences between Chinese and English.Through this translation practice,it can be found that Text Typology is instructive for the translation of investment promotion brochure,and the choice of translation methods should be flexible and consider the actual use of the text. |
