| Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of compulsory drug addict’s future time perspective on the relapse tendency, the mediating role of irrational beliefs, and the moderating role of coping styles. Methods: The study used the General Future Time Perspective Questionnaire, the Irrational Beliefs Scale, the Relapse Tendency Questionnaire,as well as the Simple Coping Style Scale, and used the software SPSS21.0 to analyze the data of 211 compulsory drug addicts in compulsory drug rehabs in order to explore the effects of future time perspective on relapse tendency, the mediating role of irrational beliefs, and the moderating role of coping styles.Results:(1)Future time perspective significantly and negatively predicted the relapse tendency(β=-0.55,t=-8.45,p<0.001);(2)Irrational beliefs mediated the relationship between future time perspective and the relapse tendency(β=-0.50,p<0.001,β=0.47,p<0.001);(3)Coping styles can play a moderating role in mediating models of future time perspective, irrational beliefs, and relapse tendency.coping styles moderate the first half of the model’ s pathway(β=0.12,p<0.05)and the second half of the model’ s pathway(β=-0.14,p<0.05).Specifically,for drug addicts with positive coping styles, irrational beliefs were able to be less influenced by future time perspective. In addition, individuals with positive coping styles were able to effectively mitigate the positive predictive effect of irrational beliefs on the relapse tendency. In summary, coping style moderated the pathways of future time insight on irrational beliefs and irrational beliefs on the relapse tendency.(4)This model that the influence of future time perspective on the propensity to relapse among compulsory drug abusers, the mediating role of irrational beliefs and the moderating role of coping styles has gender differences, specifically, for female drug addicts, coping styles moderate the first half of the model’ s pathway(β=0.16,p<0.05);for male drug addicts, coping styles moderate the second half of the model’ s pathway(β=-0.21,p<0.05).Conclusions:(1)Future time perspective significantly and negatively predicted the relapse tendency;(2)Irrational beliefs mediated the relationship between future time insight and the relapse tendency;(3)Coping styles moderated the mediated model of future time insight, irrational beliefs and the relapse tendency;(4)There were gender differences in the mediating model. |
