| The source text is an academic paper—Creative Development: Copyright and Emerging Creative Industries, written by Sean A.Pager,a professor of law at Michigan State University. It is an informative text with strong logicality and cohesion.Given the distinctions between English and Chinese in logic and cohesion, how to keep the cohesion and coherence of the source text and accurately convey the original information then has become a major difficulty in translation.Under the guidance of Halliday and Hasan’s cohesion theory, the translator concentrates on the text and textual cohesion.By comparing the similarities and differences between English and Chinese in grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion, the translator has adopted such translation methods as reappearance of lexical items, removal and retention of cohesive devices and sentence restructuring to realize the textual cohesion of the translation. This translation practice is expected to help Chinese scholars identify the copyright problems of film and music industries in China, and offer inspirations to boost the development of creative content industries. At the same time, the application of Halliday and Hasan’s cohesion theory helps the translator to reproduce textual cohesion of the translation, which proves the guiding significance of cohesion theory in E-C translation practice and can also provide some reference for future research in this field. |
