In the late 19 th and early 20 th centuries, the educational revolutionary movement of the Jadidists in Tsarist Central Asia occupied an important place in the modern history of Central Asia. The backwardness of the Central Asian societies under Russian rule,as well as the scientific, technological, ideological and cultural developments brought by the Russians and the modernist movements within the Islamic world, were important reasons for the emergence of this movement, which was actively promoted by local elite intellectuals, progressives and patriotic entrepreneurs at a time of both difficulty and opportunity. The Jadidists of Central Asia wrote books on their educational ideas, including Behbudiy,Munawwar Qari and Fitrat, who believed that education could give freedom and development to the people, and that the renewal of education would lead to a return to progress in Central Asia, and their ideas were an important guide to the Jadidists educational revolution in Central Asia. The educational revolution took the form of school education and social education, with the focus on local schools with new methods, efficiency in teaching and learning, and an active commitment to study abroad as a complement to school education, and in social education,it mainly focuses on the publication of newspapers and magazines, the creation of dramas and the establishment of theater troupes, and the establishment of bookstores and reading rooms. The Jadid educational renewal movement was mainly concerned with attacking social problems, calling for change and education for the Central Asian population and the introduction of secular knowledge. As a reform movement, obstacles were inevitable and the Jadidists faced double oppression from both the Russian authorities and the conservative opposition in Central Asia,as well as their own shortcomings which caused problems for the movement. In the face of these obstacles and difficulties, the Jadidists took a number of measures to deal with them, and although their methods and measures were tested time and again, they were initially successful. The educational renewal movement led to the secularisation and modernisation of schooling in Central Asia, played a positive role in changing the customs of the region and enriched the public and cultural life of the Central Asian population, and, more historically, the spirit of renewal and Central Asian nationalism advocated by the Jadidists was relied upon by the later independent Central Asian states, particularly Uzbekistan.
