Illness And Defense:A Study Of “Nongshang” Of The Jingpo In Kachang Town

When a sudden public health event occurs,how folk activities play a role,how the people of folk activities use folk knowledge to interpret the crisis,and how they use folk activities for risk prevention and control are topics that folklore should consider and study.This paper takes the "Nongshang" sacrificial ceremony of Jingpo in the Kachang Town where on the China-Myanmar border as the research object to deeply observe and understand how the Jingpo people in Kachang Town understand,respond to and defend against the COVID-19 during the COVID-19 epidemic;Explore how the traditional folk culture forms the anti epidemic force with local characteristics when the crisis occurs.Meanwhile,interpret the collective survival consciousness of Jingpo people in the epidemic crisis and the important role played by the combination of local knowledge and modern professional epidemic prevention and control knowledge.In addition to the introduction and the conclusion of the last chapter,the main body of this paper has five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces Kachang Town,including geographical environment,human history,economic life,information channel and the overall health and medical situation of the town.The second chapter describes the traditional disease treatment and disease defense means of Jingpo,and comprehensively understands the disease view of Jingpo in Kachang Town,that called Two Solutions by God and Medicine.Primitive religious forces once played an important role when the public health care and disease control system had not been established and improved.With the development of modern medical technology,its role has gradually weakened,and the way people deal with diseases and epidemics has changed significantly.However,for Jingpo people in Kachang Town,the popularization of modern medical treatment only makes the methods to deal with diseases and epidemics diversified,and the traditional treatment and defense means with primitive religious power have not completely disappeared.The third chapter describes the villagers’ attitude and behavior towards the epidemic crisis,and explains that the central idea of the ceremony is defense by describing the "Nongshang" sacrificial ceremony held by Jingpo ethnic group in Kachang town during the epidemic.In the folk custom system of Jingpo society,traditional festivals and sacrificial ceremonies reflect the concept of disease elimination and defense to a certain extent.They are part of the knowledge system of epidemic prevention and disease prevention in Jingpo society.To this COVID-19,the Jingpo first took the state led disease control defense and treatment as the most important measures,including grass-roots government and medical institutions to organize and publicize epidemic prevention knowledge,isolation,wearing masks,washing hands frequently,and pay attentiong to hygiene.Secondly,on the basis of obeying and cooperating with the national government’s epidemic prevention and control measures,the Jingpo groups achieve a dual defense mechanism through relevant ritual behaviors such as ghost worship and prayer.The fourth chapter describes the symbolic culture in the daily life practice of Jingpo ethnic group,than analyzes the symbols in the "Nongshang" sacrificial ceremony,deeply understands the symbolic significance of the "Nongshang" sacrificial ceremony with the help of various symbols,and reveals the behavioral logic and cultural connotation behind the ceremony of Jingpo ethnic group.The fifth chapter analyzes the function of "Nongshang" sacrificial ceremony.Ritual space and village closure and isolation jointly build the unity of village fate,shape the consciousness of collective coexistence,and form a local anti epidemic force.Throughout the full text,the author wants to show that both the scientific epidemic prevention and control at the national level and the ritual defense within the ethnic group are of practical significance during the epidemic prevention and control.The two complement each other and jointly build the epidemic prevention force with local ethnic characteristics,so as to appease the people and maintain social stability.
