| The world’s widespread understanding of the global environmental crisis has stimulated academic interest in environmental research.The environment has become the core issue of researches by a large number of scholars.Arctic Environmental Modernities,edited by Lill-Ann K(?)rber,Scott Mac Kenzie and Anna Westerst(?)hl Stenport,is a collection of articles focusing on the environmental issues in the Arctic region.These studies included in this book belong to quite different academic fields,such as science,social science,and humanities,emphasizing the combination of history,sociology,politics,science and other disciplines.The book consists of 15 chapters in total.The translator chooses Chapter 11 and Chapter 12 as translation materials.In accordance with the analysis of the content and linguistic characteristics of the source text,Hans J.Vermeer’s skopos theory is selected as the guiding principle of this translation practice.Vermeer points out that translation is a kind of action with distinct purpose or “skopos”.The translated text should be conducted to realize the expectations of target readers in the target context.The translation purpose determines the methods and strategies to be employed in the process of translation.Therefore,the author of the report adopted appropriate techniques to achieve functional equivalence.Under the guidance of the three rules of skopos theory,the author of the report analyzed the language of the source text,and adopted inversion and division translation strategies to translate the geopolitical documents by referring to the skopos rule,which is more conducive to convey the true meanings of the original author and the source text;And the author of the report adopted amplification and conversion translation strategies to translate the geopolitical documents by referring to coherence rule,which makes the translated text conform to the reading habits of the target language readers.The author of the report adopted literal translation and liberal translation to translate the geopolitical documents by referring to the fidelity rule,which makes the translated text concise and accurate. |
