A Study On The Structure Of "Xiande+AP"

“Xiande+AP”(显得+AP)is a kind of special structure in Chinese,which is often classified as verb-object structure.However,the semantic generalization of“xiande”(显得)shows the function of similar prepositions in syntax,and has a certain degree of similarity with the general adjective predicate structure.This paper takes“xiande+AP”as the research object,discusses the characteristics of this structure from three aspects of expression,context and value,and puts forward some new views on the nature of“xiande”.The paper is divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction,which introduces the reason of topic selection,research objectives and significance,relevant research status,research methods and corpus sources.The second part briefly discusses that “xiande+AP” is not a typical verb-object structure.Grammatically,“xiande” is sticky,and generally only takes an adjective object,with weak action,and is generally negated by “no”.Semantically,“xiande+AP”has the semantic nature of highlighting the perception of external attributes or subjective presentation,the subject is non-agent,“xiande” has semantic marker,and“xiande” produces generalization.The third part is a detailed investigation of the syntactic form of “xiande+AP”.Combined with adjective dictionary and corpus,this paper collects “AP” which can enter the structure of “xiande+AP” in detail and summarizes,and systematically describes the distribution form of this structure according to the close degree of collocation of “xiande+AP”.The fourth part mainly investigates the semantic category of adjectives that can enter this structure and the semantic expression characteristics of the whole structure.The structure of “xiande+AP” has a certain selectivity to the semantic meaning of adjectives.The structure of “xiande+AP” is mainly manifested in two semantic types:one is the attribute of things that can be directly perceived through vision,the other is the psychological condition of the subject.The fifth part mainly explains the specific value of “xiande+AP” structure.In the case of the same appearance and essence,the main function of “xiande” is to describe objectively,and the speaker makes an objective judgment on the phenomenon(essence)of things.In this case,“xiande” can be omitted in the sentence without affecting the truth value of the sentence.This kind of structure is very similar to the adjective predicate sentence.When it comes to the separation of appearance and substance,“xiande” highlights the inconsistency between appearance and reality,and“xiande” is the necessary ingredient.The sixth part demonstrates that “xiande+AP” is a part of speech structure,and there are five syntactic differences between the “xiande+AP” structure and the typical verb-object structure “V+AP”.“Xiande” mainly plays the role of connecting the subject and predicate elements,which is derived from the above type of “objective description”.“Xiande+AP” can be regarded as a special form of Chinese adjective predicate sentence.The sixth part is the conclusion of the thesis,which makes a brief summary of the research results and puts forward the reflection.
