Vocabulary is an indispensable and basic element in the formation of language.The vocabulary foundation accumulated by students in primary school is related to the formation of their whole English language system in the future.Primary school English vocabulary teaching requires students to have a basic learning and mastery of the sound,form and meaning of vocabulary.Although this request is very basic,it is a very important part of the primary school English teaching system.Especially since the new curriculum reform,more and more emphasis has been put on the cultivation of students’ learning interest,which requires teachers to constantly stimulate and strengthen students’ learning interest in teaching,let students actively participate in various classroom learning activities,and make them feel the fun of English learning.However,in the actual process of English Vocabulary Teaching in primary schools,some teachers still use the traditional teaching methods in the past.For them,students’ vocabulary learning is mechanical transcription and rote memorization,which can not really understand and resonate with vocabulary.It is difficult for teachers to stimulate students’ interest in vocabulary learning.Therefore,after understanding the primary school students’ English vocabulary learning interest and teaching strategies through the literature method,this study investigates the English vocabulary learning interest of 200 students from grade 3 to grade 6in a primary school by stratified random sampling,and understands the current level of primary school students’ English vocabulary learning interest through the questionnaire method,It also summarizes and analyzes the problems and reasons of their interest development in the process of English vocabulary learning,and finally summarizes the teaching strategies to improve pupils’ interest in English vocabulary learning.Through various investigations,the current situation of primary school students’ interest in English vocabulary learning is as below: the level of students’ interest in English vocabulary learning is generally average;Among the aspects of primary school students’ interest in English vocabulary learning,primary school students’ interest in English vocabulary learning is relatively lack in knowledge acquisition and active learning;Pupils with poor English foundation have low interest in vocabulary learning;Students ignore the importance of interest in vocabulary learning.The problems of pupils’ interest in English vocabulary learning are: Students’ lack of initiative in vocabulary learning;The evaluation method of teachers’ vocabulary teaching is single;Teachers’ vocabulary teaching methods are inefficient.Further research found that the reasons for pupils’ lack of interest in vocabulary learning are: students lack scientific vocabulary learning methods;The teaching evaluation system hinders the development of students’ interest in vocabulary learning;Teachers’ vocabulary teaching methods are lack of innovation.Finally,according to the results of the survey,this paper puts forward teaching strategies to improve pupils’ interest in English Vocabulary Learning: first,improve teachers’ teaching ability,including improving teachers’ quality,changing teaching methods and optimizing homework design;Secondly,optimize the presentation of learning content and use teaching tools flexibly according to the learning content;Thirdly,optimize learning methods,including optimizing vocabulary memory methods and enriching vocabulary learning ways,so as to meet the learning needs of students with different learning foundations;Finally,optimize the teaching evaluation system,focusing on developmental evaluation,and evaluate students’ comprehensive ability in vocabulary learning in many aspects,so as to improve pupils’ interest in vocabulary learning.
