Carving in China can be traced back to eight thousand years ago,from ancient times to the present,China’s cultural inheritance is inseparable from lettering.Traditional carving is mainly practical,when the excellent master appeared,modern carving art also emerged at the historic moment.The development of modern word engraving art in China is only more than 30 years,which is still in the early stage of art development.The national lettering art exhibition is the main way of communication of modern lettering art creation.In the past 30 years,China has held a total of 11 national lettering art exhibition and the modern engraving art theory research association for three sessions.These exhibitions can best reflect the creation situation of modern engraving art in China.The creator’s choice of calligraphy from the early multi-body to the current seal script,seal character is strong,used in a better visual effect and visual impact in the work.In the form of engraving,the carrier,shape,knife method and color of engraving are all changed from multiple to single.In terms of content selection,there is no specific topic for the early creation content,the number of words is more or less,and with the emergence of the theme lettering,"meaning engraving" is favored by more book engraving,and the number of words with fewer words is better.From the point of view of the works of the National Character Carving Art Exhibition,the similarity of style is the biggest problem.Many similarities can be seen between the works exhibited and the works of the judges and the works exhibited in the exhibition.Innovation is the most important driving force in the development of art.The calligraphy quality of book carving needs to be improved,and a real book calligrapher must be an excellent calligrapher.In addition,the creators are encouraged to join the traditional Chinese culture in the creation,and the art with the national soul can be carried forward.This paper mainly analyzes the works of the modern lettering exhibition to summarize the style variation of the works of the modern lettering art exhibition.The first chapter analysis of the development of modern engraving art for 30 years,the second chapter of previous national engraving art style selection statistical analysis,the third chapter analyzes the transformation of previous national engraving art exhibition design,the fourth chapter analyzes the selection of text content,the fifth chapter presents the problems in the development of modern engraving art and solutions,and the future development trend of modern engraving art expression and expectations.
