The composition of Chinese paintings is not only concerned with space, but also with plot and time line considerations. This multi-temporal composition is reflected in the murals of stones, temples and tombs, which shows that the concept of temporal integration has always been rooted in the traditional Chinese concept.Nowadays, the concept of multiple spatio-temporal composition is usually applied in the field of movies or novels, which shows that the concern for time and space has been a proposition sought by philosophers and scientists since ancient times, and artists from ancient and modern times have conveyed their thoughts on time and space with their own unique perspectives. However, there are few cases in which the concept of multiple temporal compositions has been discussed in conjunction with paintings. In the course of general theoretical research and creative exploration of painting,we often consider painting as a kind of spatial artistic understanding and analysis, but pay little attention to the temporality of the composition of the picture. This paper examines the multiple temporal and spatial compositions of the frescoes in Cave 254,seeking to explore the reasons behind the multiple temporal and spatial compositions of the frescoes and the purpose of such compositions, and to analyze the elements and connotations of the frescoes in detail, starting with the specific pictorial features of the frescoes. This paper first clearly explains the concept of space-time,contrasts and distinguishes the concept of space-time in the physical sphere and the concept of space-time in painting, and on this theoretical basis analyzes in depth the specific problems of the subject of study."While images of the Buddhist story of Prince Sattva giving himself up to the tiger are widely distributed in the Mogao Caves, most of the tigers in the various periods are composed in a single momentary scene or in long scrolls in the style of a comic strip. The article, however, focuses on the multiple temporal composition of Cave254 in the Northern Wei caves, which is a valuable case study. Finally, the essay tries to summarize the role of multiple temporal compositions in the picture and their potential application to a wider range of new creations.
