Yu Dafu’s Creation Influence By Rousseau’s Confessions

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was the first man to write the modern autobiography in France.The appearance of Confessions has brought western modern biographical literature into a new era and exerted immeasurable influence on world literature.At the beginning of the 20 th century,Rousseau’s thought and Confessions entered China with the dual cultural context of the "May Fourth Movement" and the “Introduction of Western Learning to the East”,setting off a great wave of Rousseau.In the 1920 s,Confessions set off a climax of translation and introduction,with numerous translations and continuous reprints,and even more controversy among critics.The influence of Rousseau and Confessions can be seen everywhere in modern Chinese literature writing.Yu Dafu is called "Rousseau of China".He said that Rousseau was regarded as a spiritual teacher.In 1928,he published three consecutive commentary articles about Rousseau in a short year,which showed his admiration for Rousseau’s spirit and his creation.At the beginning of his Biography of Rousseau,he said: "France may perish,and the civilization,language and world of Latin nation may perish together,but Rousseau’s works will not shine until the end of the world,when the creator comes to judge the living and the dead again".It shows the deep influence of Rousseau and his works on Yu Dafu’s thought and artistic creation.This paper uses comparative literature influence research and text analysis research methods respectively.Firstly,from the macro level,through historical materials,it sorts out the translation,introduction,acceptance and influence of Rousseau’s Confessions in modern Chinese literature,and makes clear the social and cultural context that influenced Yu Dafu’s thought and creation.On this basis,by using the method of text analysis,this paper compares Rousseau’s Confessions with Yu Dafu’s novels and prose works,and discusses the influence of Rousseau’s Confessions on Yu Dafu’s prose and novel creation from two aspects of writing ideas and writing styles,and sums up Yu Dafu’s reference and transcendence to Rousseau’s Confessions,so as to provide reference materials for related research in domestic academic circles.
