Study On The Poetry About Natural Disasters In The Yuan Dynasty

In the 163 year history of Mongolian Yuan Dynasty,the frequent and huge natural disasters can not be ignored.The reason is not only natural,but also man-made.The memory of natural disasters remains in historical records,as well as poems.Natural disaster poetry in Yuan Dynasty is a kind of poetry whose main content is the influence of natural disaster phenomenon or natural disaster on Yuan people and Yuan people’s response to it.Compared with the research results of natural disasters in the Yuan Dynasty,the research of disaster literature in the Yuan Dynasty is much weaker.On this basis,this paper studies the natural disaster poetry of the Yuan Dynasty,and analyzes its writing background,author profile and distribution,theme,typical poets and significance,in order to play a positive role in the literary research of the Yuan Dynasty.The main body of the dissertation consists of five chapters and eleven sections,mainly including the following aspects:The first chapter discusses the writing background of natural disaster poetry in Yuan Dynasty.The categories of natural disasters,the measures to deal with them and the deficiency of disaster response measures are briefly described.The law of the Yuan Dynasty was incomplete,the inherent morality was impacted,the social order was loose,and the imperial court had no compulsory ideological guidance.The rare relaxed environment gave the literati full creative freedom.The second chapter discusses the author research of natural disaster poetry in Yuan Dynasty.The names,native places,years of birth and death and official experience of126 poets are listed in the form of tables.Then it is found:firstly,the number of authors in the south far exceeds that in the north.The reason is not the uneven distribution of natural disasters in the north and the south,but the north was severely damaged by the war in yuan Dynasty and its population decreased sharply,while the south was relatively relieved.So the population base of the south is larger than that of the north.Secondly,most of the authors of natural disaster poems had official experience,while those who had not been in public office had close connections with officials or local dignitaries.So they can learn more about natural disasters.The third chapter discusses the theme of natural disaster poetry in Yuan Dynasty.Yearning for peace and prosperity is its common theme.The natural disaster poems of the Yuan Dynasty mainly reflect six phenomena of social non governance,and show people’s general tendency of "thinking about governance".The emotions reflected in these poems focus on five aspects: mourning for the disaster and compassion for the people,indignation and dissatisfaction,nostalgia for the hometown,unwillingness,helplessness and fear,hoping for the disaster to stop or rejoice in relief.The fourth chapter discusses the natural disaster poems of typical writers.According to their identities,these poets can be divided into two categories: one is represented by Wang Yun and Hu Zhiyu,and the other is represented by Fang Hui and Hua Youwu.Their representativeness is reflected in their creative content and artistic style.The fifth chapter discusses the significance of natural disaster poetry in Yuan Dynasty.The natural disaster poems of the Yuan Dynasty reproduce the human tragedy,and some works also show the transcendence of suffering.Disaster relief activities are common in the natural disaster poems of the Yuan Dynasty,which are criticized by some poems.
