Artificial intelligence(AI)is not only a new driving force to empower the real economy and boost high-quality development, but it also greatly facilitates people’s daily life with its applications in mobile payment and smart home system.Faced with the rapid development of artificial intelligence, people are increasingly worried about the unemployment caused by machines’ replacement of humans. The source text of this report is excerpted from The Feeling Economy: How Artificial Intelligence Is Creating the Era of Empathy. This book creatively divides the economy into three stages and introduces artificial intelligence’s influences on people’s life in each economic development stage. It is believed that feeling is still a gap between humans and machines despite the rapid advances in artificial intelligence. It is of great significance to translate this book, which will give us some inspiration on further promoting economic development through AI and making better use of human’s comparative advantages over machines.Based on Newmark’s text typology theory, the source text falls into the category of the informative text that elaborates objective facts. Therefore, the translator is supposed to attach great importance to accurately conveying the original information. In the process of translation, the communicative translation is chosen as the main guiding theory. With an emphasis on the target readers, the translator takes their cultural background and psychological feelings into consideration.Great attention is paid to the information rather than the grammatical structure of the source text so that the target readers can obtain the original information without any difficulty. In other words, the target text attempts to produce an effect as close as possible to that of the source text.A number of translation techniques such as addition, omission and conversion are illustrated in this report to show how to solve the problems encountered during translation under the guidance of communicative translation theory. This translation project is aimed at making the content and form of the translation conform to the expression habits and thinking mode of the target readers. This translation report mainly includes five chapters.Chapter one is task description, introducing the background, significance and objective, the source text and the co-authors of it,and the framework of this report.Chapter two summarizes what the translator did during the translation process including the pre-translation stage, the while-translation stage and the post-translation stage.Chapter three is the theoretical basis, briefly introducing Newmark’s text typology theory, semantic translation theory, communicative translation theory and their application in this project. The fourth chapter is concerned with the analysis of examples, mainly at the lexical, syntactical and textual levels.Chapter Five summarizes reflections and limitations and also offers some suggestions for future translation practice.
