Carleton College Oral History Program is a component of the Midwest China Oral History Interviews which is under the auspices of the Midwest China Center. The interviewee,Carton, recounted his teaching and living experience at the Ming-I school as a Carleton-in-China representative in Fenyang City,Shanxi Province from the fall of 1936 to the summer of 1939.The ultimate goal of translating this material is to provide reference for the old photographs identification program of Carleton College. At the same time, the material itself has historical value. The original text is an oral one, which focuses on stating historical facts and sharing experiences and feelings. Therefore,it causes the translation difficulties in three dimensions. On the linguistic dimension, sentences are colloquial, loosely structured, and repetitive;on the cultural dimension, the context contains many culture-loaded words and proper names that are difficult to transfer between Chinese and English;on the communicative dimension,it contains many bilingual differences and flashback when the interviewee narrated his life experience. To solve these problems, the author employed Eco-translatology by Professor Hu Gengshen as the theoretical guide in the translation practice on Carleton College Oral History Program. This translation practice report is about how the Eco-translatology and its three-dimensional translation methods are used to solve the translation difficulties so as to achieve the balance of ecology in translation between original texts and the target. It is hoped that this translation case will provide certain reference for the translation of oral texts.
