The importance of academic papers for the exchange of various academic information is self-evident.In this translation practice,three papers in the academic thesis collection Correspondences and Contrasts in Foreign Language Pedagogy and Translation Studies were selected as the research objects.Written by experienced university teachers and linguists from Poland,this collection focuses on the correspondence and contrast between English and Polish languages,and their role in the study of foreign language teaching and translation.At present,no Chinese translation of the book is published,so the author’s translation is the first translation.According to Peter Newmark’s theory of Text Typology,academic papers belong to informative text.By means of case analysis and literature research,this report analyzes the typical cases in the translation from the three levels of vocabulary,sentences and discourse,and explores the translation techniques and methods used in the process of translating Correspondences and Contrasts in Foreign Language Pedagogy and Translation Studies under the guidance of Text Typology theory.Text Typology theory includes semantic translation and communicative translation.As a whole,they are inseparable and complementary to each other,and can usually be used alternately.Therefore,semantic translation and communicative translation are combined in the translation practice to make the translation both faithful to the source text and acceptable to the readers of target language.Under the guidance of Text Typology theory,translation from English to Chinese requires combining communicative translation and semantic translation.Semantic translation should be used to make the target text faithful to the source text with formal diction in accordance to the academic paper standards.And the communicative translation should be used to make the translated text naturally coherent as the specification of target language.This translation practice guided by the Text Typology theory is to provide some reference for the translation practice of the same type of text,enhance the scholars’ research interest in the translation of English academic papers,achieve the hope of continuously expanding the research in this field,and promote the academic exchange and communication among scholars of different nationalities.
