The application of machine translation(MT)and post-editing(PE)in language service industry has developed rapidly and been seen in translation of texts of different disciplines and fields.Taking the second chapter of The World for Sale as the translation material,this report applies Youdao Translation and SDL Trados as the translation software to explore the common error types of machine translation in economic and financial texts.It adopts corresponding methods and strategies to improve translation quality,hoping to provide enlightenment for post-editors and translation industry,and to promote the application of post-translation in translating economic and financial texts.The translation project is divided into three stages: pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation summary.The preparation process includes understanding the relevant information,characteristics and the main content of the text.In actual translation,the first step is to translate the whole text by Youdao,and then analyze,classify and summarize the error types generated by machine translation.Finally,according to different types of errors,the corresponding post-editing strategies are selected to correct those errors and polish the translated text.Through the analysis of machine translation errors,the author summarizes the common error types as term and proper noun mistranslation,improper word order,information redundancy,and mistranslation of polysemic words.In view of these errors,the author puts forward corresponding translation improvement methods,including choice of word meaning,conversion,amplification and cohesion and coherence.Translating this excerpt of economic and financial text with the help of machine translation post-editing has proved that this model has indeed improved the quality and efficiency of translation.Therefore,translators should grasp this translation method,learn to use relevant tools and master post-editing skills so as to obtain high-quality translation in an efficient manner.
