In recent years,China has been made close cooperation with overseas markets,and the automotive technology exchanges between China and other countries have become increasingly frequent.Thanks to the vigorous development of the automobile industry,the lorry-mounted crane has developed rapidly.The translation of the lorry-mounted crane operation manual plays an increasingly important role in the automobile industry,which is of great significance for the transmission of scientific and technological information and the promotion of automobile technology exchanges.The translation material of this practice report is X Lorry-mounted Crane Operating Instructions and Maintenance Manual.The manual mainly introduces the use method,maintenance and precautions of the crane,which is available for users to acquire and use,and could help users quickly and accurately understand the operation steps and the precautions for daily maintenance.However,it is a difficult problem for the author to ensure that the translation could not only accurately convey information,but also effectively help foreign users to operate and maintain safely and effectively.In the process of translation,the translator finds that there is no corresponding sentence patterns in English to translate the Chinese non-subject sentences in the translation material.In the process of language conversion,how to accurately and objectively translate Chinese non-subject sentences to the target readers is particularly important.Therefore,the translation of Chinese non-subject sentences has become a major difficulty in this research.Newmark’s communicative translation theory holds that the translation should take into account the needs of the target readers,reduce the barrier to reading.Communicative translation attempts to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on the readers of the original.In the specific translation process,according to the content of the source text,the author divides the Chinese non-subject sentences into four types: emphasizing content,emphasizing existence,emphasizing information recipients,and emphasizing suggestions.In order to better realize the bilingual conversion of non-subject sentences and translate high-quality instruction manuals,this report adopts the method of literature analysis and explores the translation techniques of different types of Chinese non-subject sentences under the guidance of communicative translation theory.The translator found that the Chinese non-subject sentences in the manual could be translated into imperative sentences,translated into existential sentences,translated into passive sentences,and adopted “it” as a formal subject.Translators should flexibly apply a variety of translation techniques in specific translation practices to improve the quality of translations.This practice report is divided into five parts.The first part is the general elaboration of the translation task.The second part is the disassembly of the translation process,which is mainly divided into three processes: pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third part is a review of the research of communicative translation theory at home and abroad.The fourth part is to explore the translation techniques of non-subject sentences under the guidance of communicative translation theory.The fifth part is the findings of the translator,as well as the limitations and suggestions.In sum,this translation practice is a beneficial attempt in automotive engineering technology translation.
