Tourism Promotional Materials(TPMs)serve as an important means for international visitors to learn about a tourist destination, therefore, the translation of that is critical to the spread of local culture. This report, based on the translation project of the pictorials The Terracotta Army of China’s First Emperor entrusted by the Emperor Qinshihuang’s Mausoleum Museum, aims to analyze the translation problems encountered in the project and provide feasible methods for resolving these problems under the guidance of eco-translatology by comparing the first and final versions of the translated text.According to eco-translatology,the optimal translation can be achieved at least by adaptive transformations from linguistic, cultural, and communicative dimensions. To achieve the best translation, translation of TPMs is conducted from the three dimensions under the guidance of eco-translatology.Specifically,the adaptive transformation from linguistic dimension can be achieved by such translation methods as standardization of terminologies, conversion of verbs, use of impersonal subjects, and variations on tenses to address linguistic problems; As for cultural dimension, literal translation, annotation, and selection of cultural information based on themerelevance can be adopted to deal with problems of improper handling of cultural coincidences and cultural vacancies, and improper selection of cultural information; In regard to communicative dimension, methods including omission of redundancy, information restructuring, and image-text consistency are put forward to tackle problems that impede effective communication. This report hopes to provide some references for the translation practice and research of texts of the same type.
