In recent years, the Chinese Culture Going Global strategy and the Belt and Road Initiative have become important means of enhancing the country’s comprehensive strength. At present,China is integrating the construction of spiritual civilization into the whole process of reform, opening up and modernization, and is vigorously cultivating and practicing the core socialist values, which represent the spirit of contemporary China and are the crystallization of the common values shared by all Chinese people. To make the core values better known and understood by more foreigners, this report therefore selects Guo Jianning’s Core Socialist Values for National Rejuvenation(mainly the foreword section and part of Chapter One)for translation.Under the guidance of Kenneth Burke’s identification theory,it analyzes various problems and difficulties that may be encountered in the practice of C-E translation of political publicity texts, and explores how to solve these problems and achieve audiences’ identification through translation techniques and strategies.Firstly,by combing through the literature on the translation of political publicity texts, this report demonstrates that Kenneth Burke’s identification theory can be used as the theoretical guidance for the C-E translation of the Core Socialist Values for National Rejuvenation from the perspectives of identification in content and form. Then, according to identification theory,it first analyzes what identification strategies are used in the original text, and reproduces the identification information in the target text by means of imitation and rewriting. At the same time, this report explores the translation methods and techniques that can be used to achieve readers’ recognition in the C-E translation of political publicity texts, and also presents some case studies. Finally, the report summarizes the major findings and limitations of this study,as well as some suggestions for future research. This report has following findings:(1)rhetorical identification theory can guide the translation of political publicity texts, and it can effectively help to gain audiences’identification;(2)the purpose of translating political publicity texts is to present China’s image in a more objective and comprehensive manner,so it is very important to gain audiences’ identification;(3)the translation of political publicity texts requires accurate and rigorous wording, involving a large number of four-character words and culture-loaded words,so it requires a certain degree of professional basic skills of the translator;(4)political texts involve a large number of proper nouns, conference names, document names, abbreviations and so on,therefore, sorting out the proper vocabularies in the original text before translation will make the translation process smoother and more precise.Through translation practice, this report believes that it is necessary and feasible to apply identification theory to guide the translation of political publicity texts. When translating such texts, translators should carefully handle the cultural information and proper nouns in the original text, pay attention to the accuracy of the translation while using appropriate identification strategies to enhance the readability of the translation and gain the recognition of more foreign audiences. In addition, the translators should give full play to their subjective initiative and use appropriate translation methods and techniques to make the target audiences comprehend and agree with the words, such as archaic words and proverbs etc.
