| At present,as the global economic development has entered the “new normal”,the financial and trade exchanges among countries around the world are becoming increasingly frequent, and thus the financial text is becoming all the more important in their communication activities. The material selected from the book Financial Services in the 21 st Century not only summarizes the current financial situation, but also predicts the possible impact of fin-tech in the future, with sophisticated logic and rich content.Nida’s functional equivalence theory emphasizes the accurate transmission of information and pays attention to the equivalence between the response of the target readers and that of the original readers.Due to its objectivity, the focus of financial texts is also to convey accurate information. That’s to say, their internal concepts are consistent. Therefore, under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory, this thesis studies the translation methods of financial texts. At the lexical level,in order to achieve the accuracy and professionalism of the translation, this thesis adopts the methods of literal translation, conversion of part of speech, addition and omission to deal with the financial terms and abstract nouns in the text.At the syntactic level,in order to make the translation more fluent and concise, this thesis adopts the methods of linear translation, inversion and division to deal with the long sentences in the text, while the method of shift of voice is adopted for the passive sentences. At the textual level,in order to ensure the coherence and smoothness of the translation, this thesis adopts the methods of substitution, reference and clearly showing the logical relationship of the original text. This thesis is comprised of six chapters.Chapter One introduces the research background, research significance and research objectives of this thesis, and briefly introduces the selected translation text.Chapter Two reviews the studies of functional equivalence theory and the translation of financial texts under the guidance of this theory at home and abroad.Chapter Three reviews Nida’s functional equivalence theory and its guiding principles as the theoretical framework of this thesis.Chapter Four analyzes the linguistic features of the translated material from the lexical, syntactic and textual levels.Chapter Five is focused on case analysis, which explores the translation methods of financial texts under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.Chapter Six is the summary of this thesis, drawing the conclusions, explaining the shortcomings and suggesting the relevant study in the future. |
