| Telling Chinese stories well and improving the communication power,cohesion and influence of Chinese culture is not only an important direction to highlight China’s cultural soft power,but also an important topic for building a cultural power.With the development of China’s economy and the improvement of its international influence,the desire of all countries around the world to understand China is also gradually rising,which provides a good opportunity for Chinese and foreign CO produced documentaries.Chinese and foreign CO produced documentaries with China as the theme integrate multiple perspectives of China and foreign countries in their creation.They have more psychological closeness than non CO produced documentaries in cross-cultural communication,and can better spread Chinese culture in the international environment.How to optimize the Chinese theme documentaries CO produced by China and foreign countries,so that they can better tell Chinese stories,convey Chinese voice and spread Chinese culture abroad,is a problem worthy of study at present.Based on Hall’s encoding / decoding theory,cultural identity theory and cultural discount theory,this paper takes the Chinese and Russian CO produced documentary "This is China" as a specific research case,makes an in-depth analysis of its coding way by using the text analysis method,uses text mining method and takes the audience comments on You Tube platform as the research sample to analysis the audience decoding,to understand the meaning decoding of overseas audiences after watching the documentary and the difference between it and coding.The study found that the coding of "This is China" series documentary shows strong cross-cultural attributes in theme selection,character selection and story telling,paying attention to the performance of Chinese characteristics and the acceptance of international audiences;In terms of decoding,most of the overseas audiences of "This is China" decoded the content from a dominant position,and conducted more discussions on China’s economic development,urban style,natural environment,characteristic culture and other topics.Some audiences also expressed their views in a consultative position,and some audiences adopted the decoding methods of confrontation and emotional catharsis within the influence by ideology,ideas,knowledge structure,mass media and other factors.Based on the above analysis,this paper puts forward suggestions for Chinese and foreign CO produced documentaries with China-theme.First,pay attention to the combination of global and local characteristics in the choice of theme;Second,in the content presentation,pay attention to tell the story from the micro perspective,and focus on the cross-cultural attribute of the content;Third,pay attention to the use of diverse narrative methods and rich audio-visual language in documentary creation,so as to better enhance the viewing experience of the audience.The innovation of this paper is mainly reflected in: first,it pays attention to the encoding and decoding of Chinese and foreign CO produced documentaries in cross-cultural communication;Second,it focuses on the new development of encoding/decoding theory in the new media era and applies it to the decoding analysis of overseas audiences. |
