In February 2020,the documentary "Nanjing Anti-epidemic Scene," produced by foreign director Takeuchi Ryo,surged to prominence on overseas social platforms such as Twitter and You Tube,pushing back against the "Wuhan Virus" and "China Virus" smear campaign by western media.It showed China’s real anti-epidemic efforts and effective results to the international community,quickly garnering attention of mainstream Japanese media such as Yahoo,NHK and Fuji TV.Takeuchi’s Chinese-themed documentaries have also received high attention at home and abroad.As of October 2022,Takeuchi Ryo had 4.36 million followers on the Chinese microblogging platform and accumulated more than 89 million video views on his You Tube channel overseas.In view of the good effect of Takeuchi Ryo’s China Theme documentaries in cross-cultural communication,this paper gathers the data of Takeuchi Ryo china documentaries on Youtube platform,follows the semiotics analysis path of hall’s coding and decoding theory,synthesizes the related theories of communication and narrative,analyzes how Takeuchi Ryo china documentaries are encoded in the overseas media channels,how overseas audiences decode and accept the common meaning of Takeuchi documentaries.Based on the above analysis,this paper thinks that Takeuchi Ryo fuses his cross-cultural experience,transforms his dual cultural identity of "foreign country" and "hometown" into the "other" narration of China’s stories,unfolds the coding of documentary information,pays attention to China’s stories in the context of globalization,uses symbols,interpretations,culture and action to combine four functional symbols,and establishes a symbolic representation system to political policy,economic technology and socio-cultural themes.Through cross-cultural and cross-media paradigm-coded narrative system,the "other" and "self" achieve equal dialogue,and constantly emphasize and call attention to the individual life narration,launched the idea of global collective community of human destiny in a plain and truthful tone,so that the China stories into the global narrative framework,leading international audiences to experience Chinese storytelling from ordinary characters in space.It increases the common sense space between China’s "local" and international audiences.From the analysis of audience comments and cowords of narrative terminal,the positive decoding of overseas audience is found,the real appreciation of foreign cultural information,the correction of Chinese cultural misinterpretation and its call for the truth,goodness and beauty of all mankind are distilled from the Chinese documentaries of Takeuchi Ryo.From the two aspects of information truth and humanism,a mutually beneficial and harmonious cross-cultural dialogue is realized with the coding subject and China’s native story.As a successful example of cross-cultural communication,Takeuchi Ryo’s Chinese theme documentary provides an effective reference for Chinese documentary to go global and approach international audiences to share China stories by good communications.Through symbolic narrative and emotional communication,it creates an equal dialogue between the "other" and the "local" that can be understood,heard and understood,and provides a reference for Chinese documentaries to convey the concept of the community of human destiny.
