This translation practice corpus is selected from The Imagination of Evil: Detective Fiction and the Modern World(or simply The Imagination of Evil)by the British writer Mary Evans.In this monograph,Mary Evans explores detective fiction and its complex relationship to the modernity,especially the moral relationship between detective and a particular social world.Based on the vivid and intriguing text language and diverse and complex sentence structure,the author selected fourteen examples to analyze translation cases according to the“Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation” framework proposed by Li Changshuan and Shi Xiaojing.Firstly,in the “Comprehension” dimension,by utilizing translation skills such as paraphrase and conversion,the translator solved the target readers’ comprehension problems caused by being unfamiliar with background information or context;secondly,in the “Expression” dimension,by utilizing splitting and restructuring methods,the effect of smooth flow of information was achieved;thirdly,in the “Adaptation” dimension,by utilizing addition and negation methods,the translator solved the target readers’ reading problems due to cultural or perspective differences.In this report,the author first introduced the author and content of the source text,as well as translation difficulties and strategies,with a detailed description of the translation process,and then flexibly used translation skills to solve the problems of comprehension,expression and adaptation in the translation process.Finally,the author summarized the attains,hoping to provide reference for future translation practice.
