A Report On The Practice Of Simulated Consecutive Interpretation Of The Speech Of British Prime Minister David Cameron At Ninestiles School In Birmingham

Nowadays,peace and development are regarded by most countries as the main melody of the development of the times.However,international development has not always maintained a good trend.Nowadays,the rise of unilateralism,hegemonism,terrorism and extremism has brought challenges to world’s security.Extremism threatens the peaceful life of all regions and countries in the world,and extremism is an important source of terrorism.Under this circumstance,British Prime Minister David Cameron delivered his speech on addressing extremism at Ninestiles School in Birmingham.This speech is good for studying extremism and seeking solutions.Cooperation and exchanges between countries are particularly important now.And a good interpreter becomes a bridge of communication between countries.This thesis is divided into two parts.The first is to describe the difficulties encountered in the process of interpretation,involving vocabulary,syntax and culture loaded words.The second is to analyze and solve the difficulties encountered in the process of interpretation by using the theory of functional equivalence.The interpretation of syntactic in this speech is difficult,especially the words and sentences related to British national condition and extremism organizations,which need the interpreter to make relevant background preparation.This is a great challenge to the professional ability and cultural background of interpreters.Before the simulated consecutive interpretation,the interpreter has consulted and referred to a large number of relevant literature and theses.In particular,the guiding theory of this thesis--functional equivalence theory.Appropriate and effective interpretation skills can significantly improve the quality of interpretation.Through the guidance of equivalence theory to achieve the equivalence of information is crucial.In this way,the target language listener can obtain the equivalent information of the speech content of the source language speaker.
