| Self-objectification refers to that individuals view themselves from the perspective of a "third person",which shows that they will habitually focus on their appearance in different situations.Previous studies have shown that self-objectification can significantly affect the level of individual depression, and self-compassion,as a positive emotional arousal state and emotional regulation strategy, can alleviate the relationship between self-objectification and negative psychological consequences. In addition, the generation of depression is inextricably linked to the cognitive process. At present, few studies have explored the impact of self-objectification on depression from both emotional and cognitive factors. Therefore,in order to investigate the relationship between self-objectification and depression of female college students, this study explored the role of self-sympathy and interpretation bias between self-objectification and depression from the perspective of emotion and cognition. This paper includes two studies. In the first study,391 female college students were tested with the Self-Objectification Questionnaire,Self-Compassion Scale and Self-rating Depression Scale to explore the relationship between the three; The second study consists of three experiments, using a combination of experimental method and questionnaire method.Through experiment 1,explore the differences and characteristics of the interpretation bias of the self-objectified individuals with high and low traits,as well as the differences and characteristics in social and non-social situations;Through experiment 2,we explored the interpretation bias of low-trait self-objectification individuals and the differences between social and non-social situations.Through experiment 1 and 2,it was found that self-objectification can have a significant impact on interpretation bias.Experiment 3,based on two experiments, tested 202 female college students with the above three scales and fuzzy situation experiment, and explored the role of self-compassion and interpretation bias in the relationship between self-objectification and depression.Based on study 1 and study 2,The following results were obtained from this study:(1)Self-objectification was negatively correlated with self-sympathy and positive explanation, and positively correlated with depression;Self-compassion was positively correlated with positive interpretation, and negatively correlated with negative interpretation and depression;Positive explanation was significantly negatively correlated with depression.(2)Self-objectification can influence depression through the mediation of self-sympathy and positive explanation; It can also have an impact on depression through the chain mediation of self-compassion and positive explanation.(3)There is an obvious negative interpretation bias in the highly idiosyncratic self-objectified individuals, which exists in social and non-social situations.(4)State self-objectification can significantly affect the negative interpretation bias of low-trait self-objectification individuals, which exists in social situations.(5)Negative interpretation,self-objectification,self-compassion and depression constitute a regulated intermediary model, and negative interpretation can regulate the latter half of the intermediary model. The conclusion is as follows: Self objectification not only has a direct impact on depression, but can also have an impact on depression through a separate mediator of self sympathy and positive explanation; It can also have an impact on depression through the chain mediating effect of self sympathy and positive explanation. In the mediating model of self objectification, self sympathy, and depression, negative explanations regulate the latter half of the pathway. |
