With the international promotion of Chinese and excellent Chinese culture,the teaching of Chinese characters to foreigners has become the focus of international Chinese teaching.Character principle literacy is a teaching method that helps young native Chinese learners to acquire characters by analyzing the principle literacy of Chinese characters,while some international Chinese teachers also experiment with the practice of character principle literacy.Based on the above,this paper investigates whether character principle literacy is suitable for the teaching needs of Russian students in the preparatory stage of Chinese education,with a view to helping Russian learners study Chinese characters while appreciating the excellent Chinese traditional culture.This research takes the teaching method of character principle literacy as the research object,and the investigation subjects are Russian Chinese preparatory students in CCN Center of Xi’an University.The basic research methods are class tracking method,questionnaire survey and literature review.Based on the current learning situation of Russian students in the preparatory stage,the teaching practice of character principle literacy is carried out,while comparing the advantages and disadvantages of traditional Chinese character teaching method and character principle literacy based on the experimental and questionnaire acquisition of Chinese characters by Russian students in the preparatory stage.In addition,based on the morphological rationale of Chinese characters,the Chinese characters of Levels 1-4 of Commonly Used Chinese Character List are categorized into character principle and Chinese character culture,with a view to providing reference for the application of character principle literacy in Russian Chinese class.The survey found that the application of character principle literacy to teach Chinese characters is more conducive to Russian preparatory students to master the meaning of Chinese characters and the morphosyntactic relationship.However,there are also limitations in the teaching method of character principle literacy,such as insufficient attention to pronunciation and writing of Chinese characters.Therefore,international Chinese teachers should give full play to the advantages of character principle literacy,supplemented by traditional Chinese character teaching method,and complement the teaching of Chinese culture,so as to help Russian learners acquire Chinese characters efficiently and understand Chinese culture in a subtle way.Finally,based on the current problems in the teaching of character principle literacy,corresponding improvement strategies are proposed from three aspects: teachers,teaching and cultural transmission,in order to provide certain reference values for teaching Chinese characters to foreigners.
