With the continuous acceleration of urbanization, the production and life of cities and human society have become increasingly close, and have had important impacts in economic and trade, political construction, ideology, cultural exchanges, and other aspects.Nowadays, cities have become an indispensable and important argument in humanities and social science research, and urban communication has gradually become a hot topic in the field of communication, aiming to study the dissemination of information in cities and its impact on individuals and society. The theory of "communicative cities" was proposed by American communication studies, and the research group of the Information and Communication Research Center at Fudan University supplemented and expanded this theory based on the current situation of urban development in China, emphasizing the use of communication concepts to rethink and define the new urban proposition of cities.Although the concept of "communicative cities" has proposed a new perspective for urban communication research,it has not yet formed a complete theoretical system and requires us to conduct more in-depth research and analysis.Mediaization is a modernization process that echoes and constructs with urbanization. In the process of media, public art redefines the connotation and extension of concepts, exhibits new artistic characteristics and media attributes, and even affects people’s communication and interaction in urban society, reshaping the communication network of modern cities.Using the theory of media ecology to analyze the creation mode, communication mode and social effect of public art in cities can not only provide a new media perspective for art research, but also provide new clues for the study of "communicative cities".Based on the relevant theories of media ecology, this paper analyzes the development and characteristics of public art in the urban media environment, and establishes the theoretical relationship between public art and communicable cities. While interpreting the theory of ’communicable cities’,this study takes public art works exhibited in recent years as examples to further explore how public art achieves’ communicable’ in modern cities through text analysis, comparative analysis, and other methods.Research has pointed out that the modern media environment of pan-media,pan-technology,and panculture provides soil for the media development of public art.Public art works and practical activities promote the aggregation of time and space, the interweaving of reality and virtuality, and the generation of culture and meaning. As a result, geographical networks, information networks, and meaning networks in communicable cities are constructed, achieving the transmission of information in communicable cities New requirements for social communication and meaning construction.
