Agnes Heller’s Study Of The Theory Ofexistential Choice

As a core member of the Budapest School of Neo-Marxism in Eastern Europe,Agnes Heller has covered many fields throughout her life,among which the moral theory system presented occupies an important position.The research purpose of existential choice theory is to systematically elaborate the logical context and theoretical content contained in existential choice theory,and in previous studies,there have been some studies on Heller’s moral theory,but focusing on the systematic combing of existential choice theory is currently vacant.Therefore,a systematic sorting out and interpretation of Heller’s theory of existential choice is helpful to deeply understand the value implications of Heller’s moral theory in a combination of macro and micro.The theory of existential choice is a central theory in A Philosophy of Morals.To this end,this paper takes the text of A Philosophy of Morals as the main basis,supplemented by the "Moral Trilogy" and other works related to moral theory,deeply analyzes the social background of the emergence of existential choice theory,and systematically sorts out the internal logical context and core content contained in the theory by excavating the theoretical sources of existential choice theory.In her unique theory of existence choice,Heller proposed that modern people are in the survival situation of double contingency,and modern people need to transform your contingency into your destiny by choosing for yourself what you are,and finally return to the authenticity of the individual,so as to find their true self in modern society.Heller then proposed two ways of existential choice,namely the choice that under the category of the difference and the choice that under the category of the difference.The proposal of this innovative view has made outstanding contributions to the development of moral theory and modern society.At the same time,this paper makes a detailed analysis of the "crutches" that modern people follow as expounded by Heller,further clarifies the reference path of becoming a good person in modern society,and highlights the inner morality and conscience of every modern person that Heller tries to awaken.After sorting out and analyzing the logical context and core content system of the theory of existence choice,it is not difficult to find the theoretical value of the theory itself,the unique theoretical perspective of the theory of existence choice expounded by Heller,and the development of Marxist moral theory,Kierkegaard’s Three States of Existence theory and choice theory,which profoundly confirm the unique contributions made by her theory.However,any theory inevitably has theoretical limitations,Helle’s existential choice theory has a certain degree of utopian color and romantic temperament limitations.More importantly,the value of existential choice theory’s insightful revelation of the ills of modern society and the moral principle given to modern person is becoming increasingly evident.In essence,the theory of existential choice has a very strong contemporary value,which has objective crucial for the construction of a nice social life and the realization of individuality and authenticity.
