In December 1941,the Pacific War broke out and Hong Kong fell.As Macau was under Portuguese colonial rule and Portugal maintained a"neutral" stance towards the Sino-Japanese conflict,Macau was spared and not directly occupied by the Japanese army, becoming an "isolated island" separated from Hong Kong only by water. From December 25,1941,to August 15,1945,a period of more than three years known as the "Wind and Tide Period,"the Macau Peninsula was under the rule of the Portuguese government, and although the Japanese did not directly occupy Macau, the Macau authorities, under pressure from Japan, implemented a strict news censorship system, banned anti-Japanese propaganda activities.and Japan used various channels to suppress local patriotic and progressive newspapers, leading to the suspension of many patriotic and progressive newspapers promoting the resistance war. However, the 1937 founded "Jornal Via Kio"resisted the pressure from both Portugal and Japan, and during the "Wind and Tide Period," changed its content and methods of propaganda, undertaking the dissemination of anti-war information to overseas Chinese in Macau and indirectly promoting anti-Japanese public opinion. This article takes the "Jornal Via Kio" during the "Wind and Tide Period" as the primary source of literature on the Anti-Japanese War and modern Sino-Japanese relations data platform.Based on this,it uses text analysis and data statistics to conduct an in-depth study of the "Jornal Via Kio",summarizes the main issues of the newspaper’s anti-Japanese propaganda, analyzes how the newspaper flexibly participates in the propaganda of the resistance war through changes in news reporting and article genres, and explains the inspiration of the "Jornal Via Kio" for current newspaper operations. This article is divided into five parts.Chapter 1 is the background introduction, exploring the special newspaper operating environment in Macau under the oppression of Portugal and Japan and the development of the "Jornal Via Kio." Chapter 2 involves literary genres and column analysis, using text analysis and data statistics to study how the newspaper achieves its anti-war propaganda effect through different types of article genres and column settings.Chapter 3 is content interpretation, explaining the content arrangement of the "Jornal Via Kio" in the propaganda of the resistance war.Chapter 4 is the contemporary inspiration of the "Jornal Via Kio" in the propaganda of the resistance war.In conclusion, through the analysis of the "Jornal Via Kio" during the "Wind and Tide Period," it is found that the newspaper, under the double pressure of Portugal and Japan, sought survival by choosing different news reporting genres, changing the layout of the newspaper, and adding international news reports, while reducing content that was clearly on one side or the other to maintain neutrality. When Portugal and Japan relaxed their control over public opinion, the newspaper flexibly promoted the resistance war.The "Jornal Via Kio" spoke on behalf of the readers, undermined the "peaceful" discourse, launched the mobilization of the resistance war,and reported on the three aspects of the resistance war relief to explain the necessity and urgency of the resistance war and guide readers to join the resistance war and social relief. As one of the few remaining patriotic newspapers on the"isolated island," the "Jornal Via Kio" successfully fulfilled its historical mission and task and contributed to the victory of the Chinese resistance war.
