Adverbials have always been the focus of International Chinese Language Education. The positions of adverbials in different languages are also different. The characteristics of modern Chinese relying on word order and function words to express meaning make adverbials particularly important. In modern Chinese, some adverbials can only be located between subject and predicate, while others can be shifted. From the perspective of corpus and daily communication with Chinese learners, this nature of adverbial makes Chinese learners prone to errors in learning. To solve this problem, this paper first examines the composition and syntactic distribution of adverbial in modern Chinese, and finds that no scholars have studied the syntactic distribution and displacement errors of noun as adverbial,so this study is necessary. At the same time, the research object of this paper is noun adverbial. Then, this paper analyzes the syntactic distribution and shift of noun adverbials, and finds that nouns and noun phrases with temporal meaning can be shifted when they are used as adverbials, while other noun adverbials are less likely to be shifted.Based on this, this paper combs the errors of learners using noun adverbials in the corpus, and finds that the errors are concentrated in word order. This paper then designs a questionnaire according to the errors in the corpus.According to the results of the corpus and the questionnaire,Chinese learners have the highest error rate when using nouns and noun phrases that represent time as adverbial shifts. The main reasons for errors are related to teaching and students. In teaching, the complexity of Chinese grammar, the unsystematic explanation of noun adverbials in existing textbooks and the weak awareness of teachers in teaching noun adverbials will affect students’ learning. As for learners, the negative impact of their mother tongue, the generalization of the target language caused by poor learning strategies, and the impact of the learning environment can also affect their learning. Finally, from the perspective of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, this paper gives targeted teaching suggestions for learners’ errors and the analyzed reasons for errors. In teaching, teachers can adopt diversified word order training, focus on systematic teaching, and raise awareness to teach time adverbs. For learners, they should overcome the impact of negative transfer of their mother tongue, use multiple learning strategies to learn, and cultivate a sense of Chinese language.
