As an important cultural memory medium,film has undertaken a variety of cultural missions since its birth,in recent years,with the development of China’s film industry and market changes,the types of films have gradually been enriched,cultural content and connotation have been continuously innovated,and innovative films with unique local style represented by new mainstream films have emerged,which are quite concerned by the industry,academia and market love.This paper takes new mainstream films as the main research object,discusses the narrative characteristics and constructed cultural significance of new mainstream films since the new century from the perspective of cultural memory theory,and deeply explores their ways and significance in the process of cultural memory construction.In addition to the introduction,this paper mainly includes the following four parts:The first part mainly expounds the concept of cultural memory theory and new mainstream film,and provides theoretical support for the research of new mainstream film in the context of cultural memory theory by sorting out the concept of cultural memory theory and defining the concept of new mainstream film.On the basis of discriminating cultural memory theory,the concept,genre and development status of new mainstream films,as well as the cultural memory function and cultural significance of films to identity are discussed.The second part mainly discusses the narrative characteristics of new mainstream films from the perspective of cultural memory,analyzes the narrative themes,character images and narrative techniques of new mainstream films in the context of cultural memory,and summarizes the methods,characteristics and cultural role of new mainstream films on audience identity construction through the combination of content analysis and case analysis.The third part discusses the audiovisual style of new mainstream films from the perspective of cultural memory theory,discusses the construction of memory space in new mainstream films,including the use of color,the shaping of spectacle effects,the restoration of memory scenes,and how the use of auditory elements evokes the audience’s memory and identity construction,including the detailed analysis of dialect and sound design.The fourth part takes the theory of cultural memory as the starting point,analyzes the value and significance of new mainstream films,and discusses the cultural identity and construction methods in new mainstream films,including historical consciousness in new mainstream films,how "others" strengthen cultural identity,and the cohesive construction of multiculturalism in new mainstream films,including the construction of Chinese cultural community,consensus,and multicultural integration.
