A Russian Corpus-based Study Of Language Stereotypes Of Russian-created Images Of China | | Posted on:2024-04-14 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y Q Wang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2555306932471784 | Subject:Russian Language and Literature | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | To commemorate the 400 th anniversary of Shakespeare‘s death,Hogarth Press launched the ―Hogarth Shakespeare Global Rewriting Project‖.The contemporary adaptors pay more attention to the contemporary significance of their works and have made great innovations in the content,plot,and narration of the story,expressing doubts and rebellions against the connotation of classic texts to varying degrees.The famous British female writer Jeanette Winterson published The Gap of Time in 2016,which is the contemporary rewriting version of The Winter’s Tale.The Gap of Time tells the story of the abandoned Perdita looking for her family affection,and helping people regain their confidence,exploring the themes of forgiveness and love.Based on inheriting and enriching the classics,The Gap of Time endows it with postmodern narrative skills and contemporary social value.Based on the intertextuality theory,this paper compares The Winter’s Tale and The Gap of Time from the perspective of intertextual response,intertextual rewriting,and contemporary significance.This thesis consists of five parts.The first chapter introduces Shakespeare and Jeanette Winterson and their works respectively,sorts out the development process of intertextuality and conducts a literature review of domestic and foreign research.The second chapter analyzes the similarities between The Winter’s Tale and The Gap of Time from the perspective of narrow intertextuality.The Gap of Time forms a multi-level cross-text relationship of hypertext,paratext,and intertext with Shakespeare‘s The Winter’s Tale,the former text and the later text coexist,activates the reader‘s memory of the former text in the dialogue of the text,inherits the theme of Shakespeare‘s original play,realizes the return of Shakespeare classics.The third chapter examines The Gap of Time‘s adaptation,The Winter’s Tale,from the perspective of postmodern ethics and narrative discourse.It discusses the deconstruction and subversion of The Gap of Time as a classic,focuses on how Winterson integrates the two postmodern ethical issues of euthanasia and homosexual in The Gap of Time,and studies Winterson‘s rewriting of narrative time and perspective in The Gap of Time.Based on the intertextual analysis of The Winter’s Tale and The Gap of Time in the previous two chapters,the fourth chapter explains the reasons for creating and rewriting novels from the perspectives of inheriting literary classics,reflecting on aesthetic value,and injecting contemporary consciousness.It explores the contemporary significance of rewriting behind the traditional practice and glimpses the inheritance of classic texts in the present.The last part is conclusion.Winterson‘s rewriting of The Winter’s Tale is not just an imitation but also adds new connotations in limited space and has become a unique subgenre with originality in the intertextual era.She changes the form of her work from drama to novel,eliminates the traditional dramatic mode that highlights the characters‘ words and actions,and gives full display to the convenience of the novel genre.This allows readers to enter the characters‘ inner world from an omniscient perspective.Through rewriting,Winterson presents a current real problem from the perspective of abandoned children,making Shakespeare‘s classic original works universal and realistic.The intertextual research of The Winter‘s Tale and The Gap of Time not only shows the similarities in the form of the two works but also makes the meaning of the text more profound and diverse. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | The Gap of Time, The Winter’s Tale, Intertextuality, Rewriting | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
