A Report On C-E Translation Of The Pioneers Around Us(Ⅰ)(Chapter 1)from The Perspective Of Text Typology

Selfless dedication is a valuable quality of Chinese nation,and promoting the spirit of dedication is a manifestation of patriotism,which also shows the firm stand of Chinese culture.Translating biographical texts of advanced characters can not only show the spiritual qualities of the protagonists,but also spread excellent traditional Chinese culture.This report selects the content in the first part of the source text The Pioneers Around Us(I),aiming to convey the spirit with selfless dedication of the public,and hoping to play a positive role in the dissemination of Chinese culture.Guided by Reiss’ s text typology,this translation practice explores the translation strategies of informative text and expressive text in The Pioneers Around Us(I).At the lexical level,I mainly explored the translation skills of the four-character structure.First of all,the narrative four-character structure and the lyrical four-character structure should be distinguished,and to find the difference of their language characteristics.The narrative four-character structure,which is accurate and simple,is used to describe the objective things;The lyric four-character structure is mainly used to express emotions,and it’s vivid in linguistic features.We can use omission,borrowing translation,conversion of parts of speech,etc.to make the translation concise and clear.At the syntactic level,I mainly discuss translating strategies of run-on sentences.It is found in practice that the narrative run-on sentences are informative texts,which are mainly used to describe objective events;Lyric run-on sentences are expressive texts,which are mainly used to describe the author’s inner feelings.They can be translated by translation in the reverse order,amplification,and combination to highlight the author’s main points of view and fully express the author’s writing intention.At the textual level,I mainly discuss discourse cohesion and semantic coherence.when there are multiple text types in the text,the main components should be judged according to the central idea of the text.If the text is mainly used to describe objective things,the text can be judged as informative text.If the text is mainly used to express emotions,the text is expressive text.When translating,explicit cohesion in text cohesion and logical structure in semantic coherence are very important.Adopting the appropriate translation strategies in the text flexibly according to the context can make the translation more fluent.This practice shows that it is very important to classify texts according to language characteristics and functions in the process of translation practice.When translating the four-character structure and flowing sentences in the narrative text,the use of accurate and simple translation methods can make the translation concise and clear.When translating the lyrical text,the use of translation methods that highlight the original author’s point of view can fully convey the writing intention.Through the English translation of the source text,I hope this report can provide some reference for the research of text typology in the study of English translation of biographies.
