The Post-editing Methods For Contemporary Romance Novels

Chinese web novels have achieved significant development both at home and abroad in recent years.As Chinese web novels have gained much popularity among overseas readers,it abounds in the overseas market potential.Translation is the primary way to spread Chinese web novels worldwide.So far,significant progress has been made in machine translation.The translation mode of machine translation combined with post-editing can fully integrate the advantages of machine translation and human translation.This mode has been applied to various text types.This translation practice report is based on a contemporary romance web novel named Date with Mr.Mystery.After analyzing the source text according to the characteristics of web novels and carefully considering the translation quality requirements provided by the client,it is finally determined by the author that the main purpose of this translation project is to ensure that the plot of the web novel is conveyed entirely and the original meaning expressed is basically accurate.The report analyzes the common machine translation errors of this project and classifies them into grammatical errors and the mistranslation of words,the mistranslation of sentences and errors due to defective source text,and summarizes the post-editing methods for such novels,i.e.,avoiding grammatical mistakes,conveying the message accurately and clearly,making the translation of proper nouns consistent,and correcting errors caused by the source text.The author presents these machine translation errors and post-editing methods to solve them by analyzing sentences selected from the source text.
