At present, the form of cyberspace has entered a period of profound transformation, and cyberspace operations have risen to the height of national strategy. With the development of space-based Internet,5G and other network technologies, the network structure is extending to a three-dimensional structure, becoming a “super” space that links land, sea, air and space and connects the three domains of physics, information and cognition. The source text, selected from JAPAN’S CYBERSECURITY STRATEGY(2021 VERSION),was adopted and released by the Japanese government in September 2021.It is divided into five chapters: purpose and background, basic concept, understanding of cyberspace, relevant measures and promoting system. The translation of the source text will help China further deepen the research on cyberspace in Japan, and provide reference for China to continue to promote the construction of cyberspace security.Newmark divides text types into expressive text, informative text and vocative text, and advocates that translators should adopt different translation methods according to different text types.Expressive texts should mainly adopt semantic translation, while communicative translation is mainly applied to informative texts and vocative texts. As a formal report issued by the Japanese government,JAPAN’S CYBERSECURITY STRATEGY(2021 VERSION)conforms to the characteristics of informative text. Therefore, this report, guided by Peter Newmark’s communicative translation strategy, analyzes and summarizes the Japanese-Chinese translation methods and skills of JAPAN’S CYBERSECURITY STRATEGY(2021 VERSION).This practice report is divided into five chapters. The first chapter summarizes the background and purpose of this translation practice, the content and characteristics of the source text, and the composition of this report. The second chapter introduces the process of translation practice, including pre-translation preparation, text translation and post-translation proofreading. The third chapter briefly introduces Peter Newmark’s translation theory and expounds the applicability of communicative translation to the translation of the selected text. The fourth chapter summarizes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation from the five aspects of title, vocabulary, sentence, continuity and perspective, and puts forward corresponding translation solutions with specific examples. The last chapter summarizes the enlightenment gained from this translation practice and puts forward the direction for future efforts. This translation practice shows that the translation of informative texts based on Newmark’s communicative translation strategy is conducive to faithfully and smoothly conveying the information of the source text to the readers. The summary of this translation report has certain reference value for the Chinese translation of similar Japanese political texts.
