An E-C Translation Report On Out Cold (Chapter Five-Six)

This report is an English to Chinese translation of a medical text,with source material taken from the book Out Cold by Phil Jaekl,which describes the history,current status,and future outlook of cryonics as a therapeutic tool.The book consists of eight chapters,of which Chapters 5 and 6 focus on the history of cryonics and investigate whether cryonics can extend human life and the legal and ethical aspects that may be involved.The author selected chapters 5 and 6 as the translation material.The translation of this material will provide some reference for domestic cryonics researchers and clinicians to understand the study of cryonics and promote the exchange of medical technology at home and abroad.This material is an informative text that belongs to medicine,characterized by strict wording,fixed expressions,and extensive use of technical terms,passive voice,and noun structures.To accurately convey the content of the original text and make the translation more readable,the author adopted the conversion of parts of speech method for words and sequential translation,reverse translation,and division for sentences.This translation report consists of four chapters.The first chapter introduces the translation task,including the background,text content,and significance of this translation practice.The second chapter introduces the translation process,covering the preparation of the translator,the analysis of the source material,and the selection of translation tools.The third chapter analyses how to deal with the translation with vocabulary and long and complex sentences in the translation of medical materials.The fourth chapter summarizes the translation task and the experience and the reflection the author has gained from this translation practice.The author has mastered the basic translation process through this translation practice and learned to translate from readers’ perspectives and their reading feelings.The author also needs to do a lot of translation practice to improve her translation ability.
